Khawaja Asif meets Nawaz Sharif
Azma Bokhari says meetings between Nawaz and Khawaja Asif are routine and that speculation about resignations is unfounded
LAHORE: Defence Minister Khawaja Asif met former prime minister and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PMLN) President Nawaz Sharif to discuss matters of mutual interest and the overall political situation in the country.
The meeting was confirmed through a photo shared by Asif on social media. The meeting comes a week after rumours surfaced claiming that Khawaja Asif had resigned from his ministerial post — a claim he later firmly rejected.
Addressing rumours, Punjab Information Azma Bokhari said meetings between Nawaz Sharif and Khawaja Asif are routine and that speculation about resignations is unfounded.
‘No one is resigning. We are not going anywhere without putting Pakistan back on track,’ she asserted. The speculation followed Asif’s recent remarks in which he accused certain members of the bureaucracy of purchasing property in Portugal.
He described them as “crocodiles” who siphon off billions and live comfortably in retirement, alleging that even the remaining resources of politicians are devoured by this bureaucratic elite, which he termed a “stain” on Pakistan.
