‘SNL’ brings together Kanye West, Mike Myers 20 years after feud
‘SNL’ pokes fun at Kanye West and Mike Myers’ awkward viral moment 20 years ago
Kanye West and Mike Myers reunited on-screen after twenty years in a sketch on Saturday Night Live during the season 50 finale.
West was played by Kenan Thompson and Myers played himself as they performed an imaginary first encounter of the two feuding personalities after their viral Hurricane Katrina telethon moment.
During the skit on May 17th, Myers got stuck in the elevator alone with the rapper and tried his best to leave at the first chance.
In the beginning of the segment, the Shrek star was accompanied by two other characters, played by Scarlett Johansson, who also hosted the episode, as well as SNL regular Marcello Hernandez.
“Oh, my God. Is that Kanye West,” Myers whispered as Johansson makes an exit. “You can’t leave me alone in here with him.”
Awkward interaction ensued as Myers is left along with the Carnival hitmaker, both of whom have not met since their 2005 Hurricane Katrina telethon, when West suddenly declared that George Bush doesn’t care about Black people, leaving a shocked Myers staring at live television.
You “had to stand there looking stupid,” Thompson’s West recalled. Trying to switch the topic, Myers asked, “So what have you been up to?” “Oh, me? I’m in the KKK now,” the music mogul replied.
Myers continued to maintain small talk as West cut the conversation to bring up Diddy, who is currently on trial for s-x trafficking.
“This Diddy stuff crazy, right?” the rapper said. “Diddy, he’s on trial right now for, like, a bunch of stuff. It’s so crazy, man. You think you know a guy. Turns out to be a full crazy monster.”
Myers inquired, “So what happened to you?” upon which the Grammy winner asked for elaboration, but the actor gave up the question by then.
