KARACHI: Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) has directed Television and FM Radio channels to stop airing advertisements marketing contraceptives, birth control and family planning products, according to a notification issued to all media outlets.
The decision was taken in light of complaints received by PEMRA against undesired contraceptives commercials being broadcast on electronic media, notification said.
PEMRA has received complaints with regard to advertising of contraceptives products being aired by on electronic media.
"General public is very much concerned on the exposure of such products to the innocent children, which get inquisitive on features and use of the products," read the notification.
Notification further said parents have shown apathy on advertisement of such products and demanded a ban on their airing.
PEMRA warned of legal actions under regulatory laws against media houses failing to follow the directives on such advertisements.
