ISLAMABAD: A bipartisan parliamentary committee that was set up to finalise Terms of References (ToRs) for a proposed judicial commission on Panama Papers held its first meeting on Wednesday.
According to Geo News, the meeting decided that the committee would not have any head and that all the members would act equally.
During the maiden rendezvous, the government and opposition lawmakers deliberated on terms of references for the committee and also exchanged ToRs for the proposed judicial commission.
The government side also handed over a copy of the letter to the opposition, which the chief justice had written to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in response to his request for a judicial commission to probe the offshore business interests of Pakistanis whose names appeared in Panama Papers, a reference to massive leaks of tax data from a Panamanian law firm.
The committee is due to resume its deliberations on Thursday. The parliamentary committee comprises six members each from the government and the opposition, including stalwarts of the PPP, PTI, and the ruling PML-N.
