Ashanti is overwhelmed with joy as a new mom.
After recently announcing that she and rapper husband Nelly secretly welcomed their first son last month on July 18, 2024, the 43-year-old singer opened up about the “emotional and spiritual” experience in an interview with Entertainment Weekly.
“Just having all of us in the delivery room and seeing his face for the first time, I cried,” recalled the first-time mom.
“It was just so emotional and so spiritual. Kind of having a vision of this moment for so long. I always wanted children, I always wanted to get married,” she reflected.
The Rain on Me singer acknowledged the fatefulness of her and Nelly’s love story; the couple first dated in the late 2000s to the early 2010s but announced their reunion in 2023. They quietly tied the knot later that year.
“I didn’t know that I was going to spin the block and be with my ex from a long time ago,” Ashanti admitted.
“But, just all of these emotions happening at one time, just knowing that this is your person, this is your purpose, this is what it’s supposed to be,” she continued.
“And the three of us together, when we were all able to hold each other it was such an electrifying feeling. It just validated all of that. It was very emotional and spiritual to say the least,” she expressed.
