BUREWALA: (Nadeem Mushtaq): Supreme Court of Pakistan on Monday ordered the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to hold by-elections in PP-232 Vehari, a constituency of the Punjab Assembly.
Supreme Court of Pakistan Bench – I, comprising Mr. Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali, Mr. Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed, Mr. Justice Faisal Arab, hearing writ petition No C.A.321-L/2014, upheld the Election Tribunal’s decision to unseat Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz MPA Muhammad Yousaf Kaselya.
The tribunal had declared his election null and void for hiding property details.
Muhammad Yousaf Kaselya had won the seat in 2013 General Elections as an independent candidate. He bagged 50,260 votes. His opponent Peer Ghulam Mohi- ud-Din Chishti of PML-N got 43,665 votes.
Later on, Muhammad Yousaf Kaselya formally announced to join Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz. He was the Chairman of the Standing Committee on Excise & Taxation in the Punjab Assembly.
