Sebastian Stan didn’t hesitate to correct a journalist for using the wrong vocabulary to describe his character in his new film, A Different Man.

During an appearance on press conference at the Berlin Film Festival, the 41-year-old actor responded to one of the questions, in which the reporter referred to his character with facial disfigurement a “beast”.

“What do you think happens after the transformation from this so-called beast, as they call him, to this perfect man?” they asked.

The Captain America: The Winter Soldier star seized the opportunity to explain significance of the film with respect to learning and unlearning our outlook towards people who do not conform to normalized standards in the society.

“I have to call you out a little bit on the choice of words there, because I think part of why the film is important is because we often don’t have the right vocabulary,” he shared, according to Variety. “I think it’s a little bit more complex than that, and obviously there are language barriers, but you know, ‘beast’ isn’t the word.”

Stan continued: “And I think, ultimately, it’s just interesting to hear this word because I think that’s one of the things the film is saying — we have these preconceived ideas and we’re not really educated on how to understand this experience in particular.”

The actor added the upcoming film will challenge one’s “initial instincts” about a character, noting, “maybe those aren’t always the right ones.”
