1 dead, 5 injured in NYC subway fight among teenagers
Shooter fled the scene wearing a red jacket and ski mask
One person died while five others were injured in a shooting incident at the Bronx subway station in New York on Monday evening, the New York Post reported.
Bronx police said they’re searching for the gunman who opened fire on the passengers on the train and the subway platform.
According to the New York Police Department (NYPD), fighting erupted between the two groups of teenagers when a man took out his gun and began shooting.
They reported that the first shot was made inside the train, but all six people were shot on the platform outside the train and a total of 10 shots were fired, according to eyewitnesses.
CNN reported that four males were shot, including a 34-year-old who died at a hospital. The wounded victims include a 15-year-old, a 28-year-old, and a 71-year-old.
A 14-year-old girl and a 29-year-old woman were also hit by gunfire but have non-life-threatening wounds.
The shooter fled the scene wearing a red jacket and ski mask.
Tarik Sheppard, the NYPD's deputy commissioner of public information, said, "To the shooter, you are now the NYPD's most wanted, and you have the greatest detectives in the world looking for you. We suggest you turn yourself in."
Data shows about 3.8 million trips are taken on New York's subway system on an average weekday, and the Metropolitan Transportation Authority reported 570 felony assaults in all of 2023.
