Greek rapper, who looted ATMs, using explosives, to fund videos, finally faces music

Police in Greece announced Monday that they had detained a rap musician over the weekend, who was accused of using explosives to loot automated teller machines (ATMs) and fund his music videos.

The 28-year-old Greek musician, who has not been identified, was detained alongside two other suspects, ages 26 and 27, over the weekend when police raided a residence near Athens and searched multiple vehicles.

Police recovered 1.5 kilogrammes (3.3 pounds) of explosives, an M16 assault weapon, four pistols, and a little over 200,000 euros ($217,200) in cash.

“They laundered money by spending exorbitant amounts via the music industry or by gambling at casinos,” police Brig Gen Ioannis Skouras alleged.

According to police spokesperson Constantia Dimoglidou, the group was linked to 10 ATM attacks in various areas of Greece, particularly in remote locations, seizing an estimated 710,000 euros ($770,000).

The three suspects face robbery, unlawful possession of guns, illegal possession and use of explosives, and car theft charges.
