Shahid Ilyas the star as Islamabad enter U16 final

LAHORE: Islamabad easily defeated Peshawar by 34 runs, in the second semifinal of the ‘Mobilink Hunt for Heroes’ 2007-08 National Inter-Region Under-16 Cricket Championship, here at the Lahore City Cricket Association (LCCA) Ground on Friday.
Peshawar captain Tahir Khan won the toss but opted to field first. In the allotted 40 overs, Islamabad scored 154 runs for the loss of eight wickets. Peshawar were bowled out for 120 in 35.3 overs.
All-rounder Shahid Ilyas was the star of the day for winners Islamabad. He first lifted his team from a precarious 85 for five with an splendid unbeaten 44 at number seven to raise their total to respectability.
Then, he captured four wickets for 12 runs in seven overs to put Peshawar down. Apart from opener Farhan Hussain, who scored 33 runs, hardly anyone from among the Peshawar batsmen got going against a tight Islamabad bowling attack.
Islamabad will now join Lahore, who beat Karachi by 72 runs in the first semifinal at the National Stadium Karachi on Thursday, in the day/night final that will be staged also at the National Stadium on February 21.
This match will be played after the General Elections in the country. Places are up for grabs in the Pakistan team for the inaugural Under-16 cricket World Cup, that’s to be held in the West Indies in April this year.
