Hyderabad students protest

HYDERABAD: Students of Sindh University staged a protest outside the Hyderabad Press Club here on Thursday under the aegis of the student wing of Sindhi Awami Shagird Tehreek against criminal elements. They alleged that some criminal elements among the students had deprived some students of their belongings after hijacking their bus near Naseem Nagar, and demanded that those criminal students should be rusticated immediately and the university administration sacked for failing to take action against them.



Birth anniversary of late GM Sayed celebrated

DADU: The 104th birth anniversary of veteran nationalist leader late Ghulam Murtaza, popularly known as GM Sayed, was celebrated in a simple manner this year due to the assassination of Benazir Bhutto. However, hundreds of followers of GM Sayed gathered at Sann early Thursday morning and paid tributes to him. Leaders of Jeay Sindh and other Sindh nationalist movements including Bashir Khan Qureshi, Abdul Wahid Aresar, Ameer Shah, Sayed Jalal Mehmood Shah, Abdul Khalique Junejo and others visited the grave of their late leader.



Flour crisis worsens in Dadu, Jamshoro

DADU: The flour crisis has worsened in Dadu and Jamshoro districts despite the deployment of Rangers. Residents of these two districts told this scribe that despite the deployment of Rangers and the government claims that flour was being sold at Rs 17 per kilogram, there was no place in the two districts to prove this and they were buying flour at Rs 25-Rs 29 per kg in the open market. They also said the supply of the commodity fell short of demand at Utility Stores. In Jamshoro district, more than 40 small and large flour mills have either been closed by owners or the wheat quota was not being supplied to them. Remote areas like Kohistan of Thana Bhula Khan taluka and Kachho of Johi taluka are no exception with flour being sold at Rs 24-Rs 40 per kg.

ISLAMABAD: President Pervez Musharraf said on Thursday the Pakistani missions abroad had an important role to play in projecting the true image of the country. The ambassador briefed the president on the measures being taken for fostering the Pak-US relations.



Association terms flour crisis unjustified

SUKKUR: The present crisis of flour in the country is the result of unjustified export of wheat, Chairman Sindh Flourmills Association Iqbal Dawood Pakwala and president of the association Haji Munir Ahmed said during a press conference here on Thursday. They observed that the ongoing crisis could have been controlled. They added that Sindh had suffered greater loss due to flour shortage than any other province in the country. They made it clear that the Sindh Flourmills Association would not support those flourmill owners who had illegally stocked the flour. Pakwala said the crisis had now been controlled and reduced up to 60 per cent in Sukkur and Larkana regions.



Sukkur journalists protest against police

SUKKUR: Scores of local journalists staged a protest in front of the office of the District Police Officer, Ghotki, on Thursday against the registration of a case against Ghotki based private television reporter. The journalists, led by Latif Leghari and Qadir Bhutto, protested the fake case against KTN reporter Allah Warrayo Bozdar.



Khairpur Nazim bans wheat transportation

KHAIRPUR: District Khairpur Nazim on Thursday banned wheat transportation to other districts. The Nazim directed the DCO Khairpur and other officers concerned to take immediate action against the violators of the ban. He also directed the district administration to ensure the provision of flour at Rs 16 per kg throughout the district.
