The whole story behind the gold recovery case

The accused robber of 1100/1200 grammes of gold, Imran, 22, is in the Kharadar Police’s remand-custody till January 11, 2008. The above mentioned quantity of gold was stolen from the workshop where his father, Hanif, worked in partnership with Ibrahim Ali.
The accused told The News that he had to pay a large amount to different parties since he was a habitual gambler and was facing threats from them after losing a huge amount in betting during a recently test match between South Africa and West Indies
Imran further added that he was also a defaulter for some other people, which included his family members and several people in the business community. He admitted that during his business he had started different types of gambling and foreign investment for higher returns of profit on actual amount of money.
Imran—runs a medical shop with his friends in Denso Hall, where they sell sugar and blood pressure checking instruments and other medical related equipments. The other tenants are also involved in cricket betting.
According to Imran, one of his business partners, Yahya Younus—who is based in Dubai lured them into foreign investment for a better profit margin. “I visited him on several occasions in Dubai and then decided to invest money as the profit margin was really high,” adding he said, “initially we had good return and nowadays approximately Rs8 million among five partners were due from Yahya.”
Imran added that Rs2 million was his share alone and he had to distribute the profit among his uncle and others as they lend huge payments for the investment but Yahya has so far, not come up with the money.
Moreover, the accused added that he has spoken to Yahya’s brother, Hanif Bawa, but to no avail. He added that he was running out of given time and after losing every hope, he decided to steal gold from the workshop to pay-off his debts.
Earlier, the gold was recovered from Hanif’s residence and the police arrested Imran on the identification of Ibrahim on Monday, January 08. Hanif, the father of the accused, himself over saw the search and recovery of the stolen gold and aided the police in their search.
The Sub Inspector and the Investigation Officer of the case, Nasir Khan told The News that Amin, an employee of the same workshop informed Ibrahim about the robbery and Hanif was present there when Amin made a telephone call to his owner.
The IO Nasir said that Tahir Mehmood, who runs his business on the ground floor of the same building, was a witness to the whole crime and provided the details of the accused.
Tahir added that on Monday morning he saw a young man climbing the outer wall of the workshop, at this point Tahir inquired from the man what he was doing.
According to Tahir, the person replied that Hanif Bhai had sent him there to shut-down the burner of the furnace.
Later, when Hanif came to the shop at 11.50a.m., on the day of the robbery, he found that all the lockers were wide-open and the gold was missing. Ibrahim after hearing the identification details recognised the accused as Imran and on his complaint the area police took action against the accused.
Imran, the eldest son of Hanif was arrested under section 380/454/457 and FIR No. 06/2008 was lodged against him.
