‘Nawaz wanted to become Amirul Momineen’

PAKISTAN Muslim League Punjab President Ch Pervaiz Elahi has said Nawaz Sharif wanted to become Amir ul Momineen through Shariat Bill and if the same had been passed, the democratic process could have stopped for all times to come.
While addressing a corner meeting in NA-123 here Sunday, he said Nawaz was saying that the country could not afford one man show but through Shariat Bill, Nawaz himself wanted to become a ‘king’ and he not only try to hoodwink the democracy but Shariat also and the attempt is aimed at eliminating the right to vote.
He said one thing is clear that people of Pakistan want Quaid-e-Azam’s Pakistan instead of Zardari’s Surrey Palace. He said that in 1946, people voted for Quaid’s Pakistan and in the upcoming general elections they would vote again for the same Pakistan belonging to Quaid. He said Sindhi Zardari had given franchise to Zardari Junior (Shahbaz Sharif) to start a nefarious campaign against the candidates of PML. He said that by burning the offices and banners of PML candidates Zardari has opened his branch in Punjab, he observed. He said both Nawaz Sharif and Shahbaz Sharif had no right to use the name of Muslim League as they had put their party in the lap of Asif Zardari and it had become the offshoot of Pakistan Peoples Party. He said the aim of PML politics was development of the country and prosperity of people of Pakistan. He said the party never indulged in politics of revenge or political victimisation. He said that with the grace of God Almighty the PML would form strong governments in all the four provinces besides in Centre.
He said he failed to understand why Nawaz Sharif was talking about federation as during his tenure as prime minister he did not take any step to strengthen it. He said the PML talked for the nationalism and it was the only political party having roots in all the four provinces.
He said that in the Southern Punjab, president and chief ministers were elected but they never returned to their constituencies.
He said even the constituency from where he was contesting the election was a centre of problems despite Bhutto, Benazir Bhutto, Nawaz Sharif had been elected from this constituency. He asked the people to visit the area and see themselves that over Rs 750 million development projects wree being carried.
