Dr Mujahid Kamran appointed PU Vice-Chancellor

January 4, 2008

PUNJAB Governor Lt Gen (r) Khalid Maqbool has appointed Prof Dr Mujahid Kamran as the vice-chancellor of the Punjab University on the recommendation of the VC Search Committee.

The governor, who is also the chancellor of the Punjab University, announced Prof Kamran’s appointment at the PU Institute of Bio-Chemistry and Bio-Technology auditorium on Thursday. Deans, constituent colleges’ principals, directors, chairpersons of departments and faculty members were present on the occasion.

The governor said the VC search committee recommended Prof Dr Mujahid’s appointment as the vice chancellor. He said the Punjab government advertised for the post of PU VC nationally as well as internationally. Prof Mujahid was selected from among 50 top academicians interviewed by the search committee, he added.

He urged the faculty to accept the decision, which he said was made on merit. He said the faculty should support the new vice-chancellor in taking the university forward. He said the new VC must accept great challenges in upgrading curricular and co-curricular activities. He said the new VC might get best of the faculty and academic departments’ heads from all over the world.

Khalid said the university must offer modern education to students, which should enable them to get absorbed in the practical field readily. He praised Prof Dr Muhammad Arif Butt’s short stint as the acting vice-chancellor of the Punjab University.

Talking to reporters, Dr Mujahid Kamran, who earlier served as the chairman of the Department of Physics, thanked the governor for taking a prompt decision on merit. “The PU from now on will produce academic leaders,” he said.
