Unidentified miscreants fired a rocket launcher in Garden police limits but were unable to hit their alleged target, the Garden Head Quarters of the police. Instead, the rocket dashed into a wall of an vacant plot.
On Sunday night, a rocket hit the wall of a vacant plot situated beside Maki Square, near Shoe Market. After the blast, a heavy contingency of police and Rangers rushed to the scene immediately and cordoned off the area. In the meantime, the residents of the area had also arrived at the site of the blast. However, they were later dispersed by the Rangers personnel.
The police recovered a rod of the rocket launcher which bears number S-47-67-K and some cracks from the spot, the Bomb Disposal Unit personnel also reached the scene and collected the blasted material and handed it over to the police. The Garden police lodged an FIR against unidentified miscreants.
A senior officer present at the scene said that it was difficult to confirm that the target was the flats of Garden Headquarters. They might have tried to target the building but were unsuccessful. However, initially reviewing the direction of the fired rocket, it seems that it might have been fired from Usmanabad, but it was not yet confirmed.
Sub-Inspector Munir of Bomb Disposal Unit said that the wall where the launcher hit was about 7ft and the hole made in the wall was about 5 inches and the rocket launcher was of Russian make and the material was highly explosive and the speed of the explosive material was about 4,000 feet/second. They had found a rocket launcher rod and cylinder from the spot.
