Insani Haqooq Ittehad has said that President Parvez Musharraf and the caretaker government should immediately step down and a government of national consensus be formed with the consultation of all political parties and civil society.

The Ittehad comprising HRCP, Strengthening Participatory Organisation, SDPI, Aurat Foundation, Pattan, Bedari, CPD-I, Sungi, Rozan, PODA and concerned citizens in a meeting held at SPO office here observed that despite repeated concerns raised by Benazir Bhutto about the imminent threats to her life, the present regime miserably failed to provide adequate security to her.

In a statement issued after a meeting of the representatives of Insani Haqooq Ittehad’s component parties including Dr Abid Sulery, Haris Khalique, Marvin Sarhad, Naeem Mirza and Imtiaz Ali, the Ittehad strongly condemned the brutal assassination of Mahatma Benazir Bhutto who sacrificed her life for democracy, national solidarity and rights of the poor and downtrodden.

It expressed heartfelt condolence to the Benazir’s family, Pakistan People’s Party and the bereaved families of the victims of this cowardly act. “We believe that the conspiracy was hatched against the very survival of the existence of Pakistan and concerted efforts are needed to heal the wounds of the nation,” it said.

Insani Haqooq Ittehad demanded that independent judicial inquiry commission be constituted headed by the Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry including Justice Rana Bhagwan Das, Justice Khalil-ur-Rehman Ramday, Justice Tariq Pervaiz Khan and Justice Sabihuddin Ahmad as its members.

The Ittehad strongly put that no tribunal or commission established under the existing judicial setup to probe the assassination of Benazir Bhutto is acceptable to the citizens.

An FIR, it is demanded, should be registered against all the people identified by BB in her letter to Musharraf on October 17.

It appealed the protesters to express the grief and anger with respect and peacefully and do not let the innocent become victims of the protests.
