Justice Wajih arrested

GUJRAT: Police on Friday arrested Justice (retd) Wajihuddin Ahmed when he was going to take part in a protest rally arranged by the lawyers. Some lawyers were also injured during the baton-charge when they resisted the police attempt to arrest Wajihuddin, whereas five lawyers including Gujrat Bar Association President Tahir Sadiq Butt, General-Secretary Chaudhry Ilyas, Badarul Islam advocate, Chaudhry Hassan Iqbal, Muhammad Saeed, Shamshadullah and Shafqat Sahi were also arrested. Earlier, Justice (retd) Wajihuddin, in his address to the bar, urged political parties to boycott elections and join lawyers for the freedom of the judiciary.

He asked lawyers to continue struggle till deposed judges are reinstated. When Justice Wajihuddin came out of the bar room, Gujrat DPO Mehmud Hassan Qureshi showed him his detention orders from the home department and arrested him before shifting him to Lahore. Police baton-charged the lawyers rally when they reached the DCO house, injuring six lawyers including Shamshad Malhi, Khurram Sadiq, Shahzad Ahmed, Deenar Ahmed, Khurram Siddique and Hassan Iqbal. Police also snatched cameras of some press photographers.
