QUETTA: Giving call for a shutter-down and wheel-jam strike in Balochistan for Monday (today), Baloch nationalists have demanded that the body of the late Nawab Akbar Khan Bugti be handed over to them or else a strong anti-government protest movement would be launched.

Leaders of the Four Parties Baloch Alliance, a conglomerate of Baloch nationalist parties, made this announcement here at a joint press conference on Sunday. These leaders included secretary-general of National Party Mir Hasil Khan Bizenjo, opposition leader in Balochistan Assembly Mir Kachkol Ali advocate, vice-president of Balochistan National Party (BNP) Sajid Tareen advocate, Mahim Khan Baloch of the BNP, provincial president of Pakistan People’s Party Nawabzada Lashkari Raisani and members provincial assembly Akbar Mengal and Akhtar Hussain Lango.

Condemning the killing of the veteran Baloch politician, Mir Hasil Bizenjo and other leaders said the incident has whipped up resentment among the Baloch people against the Army. They also demanded of all political parties to lodge a strong protest against the killing of the Bugti chieftain.

They were of the view that the Baloch people would never forget the killing of their octogenarian leader, who was targeted in his old age for raising voice for the rights of his people. The Baloch leaders described the killing of the silver-haired Nawab Akbar Bugti as a great tragedy for the Baloch nation. He would always be remembered as a great Baloch leader, the added.

Nawabzada Lashkari Raisani also condemned the killing of Nawab Akbar Bugti and backed the call for the shutter-down and wheel-jam strike. Online adds: The Baloch leaders also said that a 15-day mourning would be observed across the province.

They thought that the 1958 history was being repeated in Balochistan when Nawab Noroz Khan was hanged by the Army in the Hyderabad Jail. They vowed that their struggle would continue despite the death of Nawab Akbar Bugti. “We will not shy away from rendering any sacrifice for our cause.”

They said a complete shutter-down strike was being observed in Dera Murad Jamali, Barkhan, Turbat, Panjgur, Qalat, Mastung, Noshki and Quetta. They said a future strategy would be devised after the arrival of Dr Hayee Baloch, Sardar Akhtar Mengal and Sardar Sanaullah Zehri in Quetta. Vice-president of Balochistan National Party Sajid Tareen advocate said the sacrifices rendered by Nawab Akbar Bugti were a source of inspiration for the oppressed people of Pakistan.
