WANA: Two militants were killed and four others sustained injuries when a US drone fired missiles on their vehicle in the Karezai Pal area in Wana, South Waziristan Agency, local sources said on Sunday.
The sources said the militants belonging to the late Taliban commander Maulvi Nazir group were travelling in a vehicle when it was targeted in the Karezai Pal area in Wana, the headquarters of South Waziristan.
“Two militants were killed and four others injured when the missiles hit the vehicle as it pulled up inside the compound owned by Ainullah, a commander of the Maulvi Nazir group,” the sources added.
The injured were shifted to a private clinic where the condition of two of the militants was stated to be critical. The identity of those killed and wounded could not be ascertained.Maulvi Nazir, who was the commander of the local Taliban in Wana area, was also killed in a drone strike and replaced by Bahawal Khan, also known as Salahuddin Ayubi. Maulvi Nazir wasn’t affiliated to the outlawed Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan and his group had signed a peace accord with the government.
The sources said the target of the attack was Ainullah. However, it could not be confirmed if he was travelling in the vehicle. His fate remains unknown as neither the local officials nor the militants made any comment about him.
A rescue operation could not be launched soon after the attack owing to fears of another attack as the CIA-operated drones were still flying in the area. Drones often launch a second missile strike to get those busy in rescue operations after the first attack.
