Terrorists fire at Nato cargo plane in Peshawar

PESHAWAR: In the second attack on an aircraft in Peshawar since June 24, a cargo plane escaped attack just before landing at the Bacha Khan International Airport on Sunday night, a source told The News.
“The plane carrying Nato cargo has landed safely at the airport for refuelling as per schedule. It was hit with a single bullet. The location from where it might have been fired is being confirmed,” SSP Peshawar Najibur Rahman told The News.
An official confirmed they were carrying out a search operation in the limits of the Badaber police station.The source disclosed that armed men opened fire at a cargo aircraft enroute from Afghanistan to the Bacha Khan International Airport, Peshawar, from the funnel area when it was about to land.
The source said that bullets and tracers were fired at the plane which received only one of the bullets near the rear landing gear assembly. “The plane landed safely at the airport. The bullet mark was found later by the crew during the post flight inspection,” said the source.
The attack is second on an aircraft from the funnel area during the last couple of months. One woman was killed and two crew members were wounded when an Airbus of the Pakistan International Airlines was attacked in the funnel area in June 24.
Several international flights suspended their flight operations after the attack that they have resumed recently.The security of the airport and surrounding area was increased and around 18,000 houses in the funnel area were registered. The data, pictures and fingerprints of all the male members in 16 villages was also collected.
