New bank a challenge to IMF, WB

July 18, 2014

KARACHI: Five major countries under the leadership of India had announced setting up of a new global bank which would pose a challenge to the institutions like the World Bank and the IMF.
These views were expressed by senior journalist and anchorperson Kamran Khan in his programme ‘Aaj Kamran Khan Kay Sath’ on Wednesday. He said that it was crystal clear now that the noose was tightening around the neck of the Taliban who had confirmed the arrest of the mastermind of the worst terrorist incidents in Pakistan, Adnan Rashid.
A very important leader of the PML-N said that the government was under pressure to release Pervez Musharraf.Speaking in the programme, Brigadier (R) Mohammed Saeed said that Adnan Rashid’s arrest was going to affect the operational strength of the Taliban while the director of Pildat, Ahmed Bilal Mehboob, said that the process of electoral reforms had been in the cold storage for the last one year.
Commenting on Operation Zarb-e-Azb, Kamran Khan said that with its launching, the US drone attacks, which had been in an eight-month hiatus, had once again been revived, and a third drone attack in this series was launched on North Waziristan on Wednesday in which 18 alleged terrorists were killed. The spokesman for the Pakistan Army had been expressing the view that the biggest hideout of the terrorists was being eliminated.
Meanwhile, the Rangers and the police had been continuously acting against the Taliban in Karachi.Kamran Khan said that information about the major victories scored by Operation Zarb-e-Azb in the last 48 hours were being revealed, including the news that the mastermind of the worst terrorist incidents in Pakistan, Adnan Rashid, had been arrested in Shakai area of North Waziristan during an intelligence operation. The Taliban, while confirming the arrest of Adnan Rashid, said that the arrest came about on a tip off provided by two of Taliban’s own commanders. The arrest of Adnan Rashid was being tipped as the

biggest achievement of the ongoing operation against the Taliban.
In a different segment of the programme, Kamran Khan said that the government stance over Pervez Musharraf was devoid of any kind of flexibility. There were some reports saying that the government was soon to show some flexibility over the issue, but Ahsan Iqbal, at a press conference on Wednesday, ruled out any such development. Ahsan Iqbal said that the problems before the government were because of those who wanted to sabotage Gen (R) Pervez Musharraf’s accountability. Although Ahsan Iqbal spoke in a roundabout way, yet those who understood politics did get the message.
Kamran Khan said that almost all the political parties of the country had had complaints regarding the last elections, and interestingly all the political parties without any exception raised objection where they lost the election. There was no denying the fact, however, that the elections lacked transparency. It’s no wonder that the then Chief Election Commissioner Justice (R) Fakhruddin G Ebrahim had resigned as the Chief Election Commissioner soon after the elections.
