52 people wounded in Islamabad shrine blast

ISLAMABAD: Over 52 people were wounded when a bomb went off during Urs celebrations at Darbar Nangay Shah Pir Badshah in Pind Parian at 10pm Friday.
The incident took place in the jurisdiction of Shahzad Town Police Station. Eight among the victims were in critical condition in different hospitals of Islamabad and Rawalpindi.Rangers took control of the area while SSP Mohammad Ali Nekokara reached the scene along with SP Investigation Jamil Hashmi and SP Rural Zubair Shaikh.
Rangers and police commandos cordoned off the area.Thirty-four people were shifted to Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS), 11 to Polyclinic and seven to Benazir Bhutto Shaheed Hospital (BBSH), Director PIMS Dr. Waseem Khawaja said, quoting a police report.
The bomb (an improvised explosive device) was planted underneath the internal wall of the tomb, bomb disposal squad (BDS) sources said.The explosive power of the device could not be assessed at the early stage but it was around 1kg.
The three-day Urs started on Friday and hundreds of people were in attendance when the device went off with a big bang, police and witnesses said.Talking to media persons at the crime scene, SSP Muhammad Ali Nekokara termed it a minor explosion saying that no one was seriously injured.Checking at all outgoing and incoming points was intensified following the blast.
