KARACHI: Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) wants to finish the deferred fifth edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) on the field, against the wishes of table toppers Multan Sultans.
Citing the clause of PSL’s playing condition, Multan Sultans, who have topped the fifth edition’s points table, wanted to be declared as champions as the tournament was postponed indefinitely due to coronavirus outbreak with only play-offs and final remaining, according to a report.
However, the PCB officials told franchises in a recently held teleconference that the board was looking for a window of three or even two days to complete the tournament otherwise revenues coming from gate money and broadcast will be lost.
According to the report, if PCB finds viable three-day window then the tournament will be completed with its original format but if they get two days, then the original format of play-offs will be changed to semi-finals and final.
Pakistan’s head coach and chief selector Misbah-ul-Haq has also expressed his reservation on declaring Multan as champions on the basis of points and said that he wanted to see PSL finish on field.
