Thar to have cadet college, university

MITHI: The PPP government in Sindh will set up a cadet college and a university and arrange the Benazir Dastarkhwans in Thar.
This was decided in a meeting of the PPP’s elected representatives and district office bearers of Tharparkar at the Circuit House here on Friday. The meeting was chaired by former president and Co-chairman Pakistan People’s Party Asif Ali Zardari.
Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah, provincial Minister for Information, Archives and Local Government Sharjeel Memon, members of the provincial cabinet and Sindh Assembly were also present on the occasion. The meeting was also attended by various heads of provincial departments, including police, health, administration, food, etc.
Zardari stressed the need for early completion of the rehabilitation work in Mithi. He reviewed the overall progress and performance of the cabinet and members of the provincial assembly. He was given a detailed presentation on the drought in Mithi and the pace of rehabilitation work being carried out. The PPP co-chairman stressed upon early completion of the rehabilitation process.
He also revisited the progress of various ongoing development schemes of Thaparkar District with special reference to drinking water supply, food and health.Asif Zardari directed to ensure installation of desert coolers at all the hospitals and schools in Tharparkar. He also asked to expedite installation of 750 Reverse Osmosis (RO) plants at an accelerated pace.
The chair was informed that as drought relief measures, 169,238 wheat bags had been distributed, 202,646 patients provided treatment, 3.2801 million livestock vaccinated and 68,130 bags of fodders distributed. The deputy commissioner Tharparkar further disclosed that a team of 50 doctors/ paramedical staff was also performing duties in Mithi.
Asif Zardari also directed the Sindh Assembly members and PPP district office-bearers to start ”Dastarkhwans” for at least 150 persons on daily basis, particularly in those areas where poor/needy people are residing. He instructed to have solar energy panels in villages and towns. He also directed to speed up the Thar Coal Project and maintained that the first right will always remain with the people of the province. He further asked to provide lands to landless peasant women for their livelihood.
The meeting was informed that the Sindh government has been requested by different individuals/ companies for adoption of schools/ hospitals in Tharparkar. Asif Zardari directed the Sindh government to process it immediately and get it implemented.
