ISLAMABAD: The Special Court hearing treason case against former president Pervez Musharraf Friday summoned Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police Jan Muhammad for torturing a journalist on the court premises.

According to details, policemen tortured the journalist of a private TV channel, reportedly on the orders of the DIG.On this, journalists boycotted the court proceedings of the day and informed Justice Faisal Arab of the situation. Justice Faisal Arab directed the registrar to investigate the matter.

The journalist, wearing Shalwar-Qameez, on Friday entered the parking area of the court after meeting complete requirement of the SOPs. He was on his way to hand over his mobile to the collection point where DIG Jan Muhammad directed his cops to again do his body search saying he seemed to be a terrorist.

However, the journalist showed security pass to the DIG who said, “Why have you not worn proper suit for covering court proceedings? Why are you showing resistance to obeying the police order? Go back and put your mobile in your car.”

The journalist requested, “Don’t make hurdles for me. Don’t call me a terrorist. I am observing the SOPs and will hand over my mobile phone at the collection point rather than put it back in the car because I am supposed to talk to my assignment desk on professional matters.”

The DIG, however, ordered six cops who dragged the journalist towards police van and finally put him there.Luckily, Supreme Court Bar Association President Kamran Murtaza and Secretary Asif Cheema appeared on the spot and managed to save Baloch from police prevailing on the DIG to refrain from manhandling the journalist.

As the journalists highlighted the matter, Justice Faisal Arab directed Registrar to conduct inquiry of the matter who summoned DIG Jan Muhammad to appear before him in the Federal Shariat Court today (Saturday) at 11:00am.
