RAWALPINDI: Over 25 gunmen kidnapped property tycoon Taji Khokhar’s younger son Farrukh Khokhar when the police were shifting him back to Adiala Jail along with four other suspects in the Sabra Bibi killing case after their production before the court on Monday.
The four other accused, including Taji Khokhar, Umar Khokhar and two others, were traveling in a double cabin vehicles.“It can’t be ruled out that the captors actually got Farrukh Khokhar following a plan in connivance with the local police and jail administration,” City Police Officer (CPO) Akhtar Umar Hayat Lalika told this reporter, when contacted.
The CPO also holds the additional charge of Regional Police Officer (RPO). As the police convoy reached near Gulshan Abad at Adiala Jail Road in the protection of about 18 policemen, including the Elite Force personnel, gun-totting gangsters boarding five or six double cabin vehicles intercepted the convoy carrying Imtiaz alias Taji Khokhar, his two sons Farrukh Imtiaz Khokhar and Umar Khokhar and two other accused.
The interceptors took the armed cops at gun point and asked them to hand them over Farrukh Khokhar otherwise they would riddle everyone with bullets. The cops handed them Farrukh Khokhar after which sped away without any resistance from the armed police, said the police, quoting eyewitnesses and the police personnel guarding the accused.
“Taji Khokhar, his son Umar Khokhar and two other accused were traveling in an Armor Personnel Carrier (APC) while Farrukh Khokhar was traveling in a private double cabin vehicle without any apparent reason,” the police sources said.
The gangsters, who were well aware of the seating position of suspects, pulled Farrukh Khokhar out of the vehicle and took him away with them. The police offered no resistance nor did they try to chase the captors, the sources said, quoting witnesses.
Quoting the preliminary inquiry report, the sources said a police inspector ordered Farrukh Khokhar’s shifting to jail in a private vehicle.
Five police personnel headed by Sub-Inspector Akhtar deployed on guard duty have been arrested and an FIR has been lodged against them, the RPO said, adding that a departmental inquiry had been initiated against the police officials under the supervision of SP CIA.
Lalika said the police personnel found involved in the incident would be dealt with an iron hand. “Every aspect of the offense will be investigated and no one will be spared if found guilty,” the CPO averred, adding that the people involved in kidnapping will be arrested soon and Farrukh Khokhar would be rearrested without delay.
