• Drones violate national sovereignty: Nawaz

      ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Wednesday said drone attacks are against the national sovereignty and peace and security are intertwined. “Pakistan has suffered long from terrorism and we cannot afford inaction anymore. Curbing terrorism is my government’s top-most priority,” he added.

      In a meeting with the parliamentarians from the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (Fata), who called on him at the PM’s Office, Nawaz reiterated the resolve of his government to eliminate terrorism. He said, “We have no option except vigorously pursuing a well-planned and coordinated strategy to find a meaningful solution to the problem of terrorism.” Emphasing the utility of dialogue, the PM said the window of dialogue should be kept open all the time. He said the Fata parliamentarians are the real stakeholders and their input and consultation for finalising the roadmap for peace in the region is must.

      Showing his deep concern over the lawlessness and economic backwardness prevailing in Fata due to terrorism, he said that he wanted to give peace as a gift to the people of the region. Enumerating the sacrifices that Pakistani civilians and law-enforcement agencies’ personnel have rendered in the war against terror, he said, “We salute all those who laid down their lives in the fight against terror and those who withstood the onslaught of hardships of time without getting intimidated in the process.”

      The PM said that the people of Pakistan have shown their utmost resilience in their hour of adversity and it is this national character and unrelenting hope for peace which will help us defeat the forces of terror.

      The meeting also discussed various proposals and recommendations put forward by Fata parliamentarians to bring the area into the national mainstream.Responding to their suggestions for the uplift of Fata, the PM expressed the resolve of his government to institute such policies and projects in the area which would help the people of the area to play their positive and constructive role at the national level.

      Fata parliamentarians expressed complete confidence in the leadership of the prime minister and hoped that Pakistan would be able to surmount several challenges it faces under his visionary leadership.

      Minister for Interior Chaudhry Nisar, Minister for Information, Broadcasting and National Heritage Pervez Rashid, Minister for Railways Khawaja Saad Rafiq, Minister for SAFRON Lt Gen (R) Abdul Qadir Baloch, Advisor to PM on National Security Sartaj Aziz, Governor KPK Engr Shaukatullah, Special Assistant to PM on Foreign Affairs Tariq Fatimi, Iqbal Zafar Jhagra, Sardar Mehtab Ahmed Khan MPA, Pir Sabir Shah, Engr Amir Muqam, Khawaja Muhammad Khan Hoti, Fata parliamentarians and senior officials attended the meeting.

      INP adds:

      Nawaz Sharif has decided to personally review and get briefing from each ministry and division in order to improve their functioning.

      The first briefing would be given to the Prime Minister tomorrow(Thursday) at the Ministry of Interior about overall law and order situation in the country, war on terror and action against former President Pervez Musharraf under Article 6 of the constitution.

      The sources said that during his address to the officers of the Interior Ministry, the prime minister would give a detailed account of his government’s policy in the war on terror and to restore peace and order in the country.
