MIRANSHAH: At least eight people were killed and three others injured in US drone attack in Miranshah area of the volatile North Waziristan tribal region on early Wednesday.
Local residents and security officials said the drone fired two missiles and struck a house in Miranshah bazaar.
“It hit a house located in the main Miranshah bazaar and killed eight people,” a local resident, Sharifullah Dawar said.
He said identity of those killed couldn’t be ascertained immediately as several people had gathered to pull out the bodies and those injured from rubble of the building.
“For some time, no one could go there to start rescue work as the drones were still flying over the area. It was after the spy planes disappeared, the tribesmen began pulling out their bodies,” Sharifullah said.
Pakistani security officials based in Miranshah, the headquarters of North Waziristan, also said the drone fired two missiles, but were doubtful about the victims.
“At the moment we don’t know about the victims but the area where the drone hit a structure is known for presence of militants,” one of the officials said.
