Seven die in NWA drone attack

MIRANSHAH: Seven persons were killed and four others injured in a US drone attack on a house in the Shawal area of North Waziristan tribal region on Friday evening. Official andtribal sources said the drone fired two missiles and struck a house where a double-cabin pick-up truck was about to enter.
“A vehicle was coming from the Afghan border and was about to enter the house when the drone fired two missiles and hit it and the house as well,” a government official based in Dattakhel area of North Waziristan said.
Pleading anonymity, he said there was no information about the identity of the slain people.Local tribesmen said that seven people had been killed and four others injured in the drone attack.
They said it was after a long time the drone carried out an attack in the Shawal Valley, a remote and mountainous part of the volatile North Waziristan. It was the first attack by a US spy plane on Pakistani territory after Pakistan’s newly-elected rime Minister Nawaz Sharif took oath of his office.
Drones last week fired two missiles and killed Pakistani Taliban No.2 Maulana Waliur Rahman in Miranshah along with five other fellow militants. The Pakistani Taliban confirmed the death of their top militant commander, Waliur Rahman, in a US drone strike in North Waziristan tribal region and backed out of peace talks with the government. The US State Department had placed a reward of up to $5 million dollars on his head but is yet to officially confirm his death.
