KARACHI: A special squad of the DIG Police, East Range, arrested an activist of the banned Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) who was wanted by the police in a number of target killing cases, including the attack on an officer of the United Nations.
DIG Shahid Hayat Khan of the East Range said that he had formed a special team to investigate target killing and terrorist activity, especially the July 17 attack on Dr Dedo Foston, a Ghanian national, who was in the Sohrab Goth area for a polio vaccination campaign.
Acting on a tip, the police raided a TTP hideout in the Zia Colony and came across two suspicious motorcyclists in Korangi No-1. When the police signaled them to stop, the suspects opened fire, which the cops retaliated. After a brief exchange of fire, the cops arrested Zahidullah alias Junaid, while his accomplice escaped. A rifle was recovered from the arrested man, while his partner’s weapon was also seized.
The accused disclosed that he was operating under the command of Ameer assigned by TTP commander in Sohrab Goth. He added that on July 17 he was tasked to attack the UN officer. He along with his associates had attacked the UN vehicle on the Super Highway within Sohrab Goth area, in which the Dr Dedo Foston (32) and his driver Mehmood Ahmed were shot at in the Mohammed Khan Junejo Colony, of Sohrab Goth area.
He disclosed that after spending three days of the attack upon UN Officer Dedo he was directed to kill Dr Ishaq who is also attached with UN Officer Dr Dedo and was residing in Sohrab Goth area. In this regard on the night of July 20, 2012, he barged into the clinic of Dr Ishaq shot him and fled.
Moreover, he had fired upon a vehicle in Sohrab Goth and killed Abdullah Khan and injured Bosnan who were traders by profession. The accused also confessed murdering ASI Raja Hussain in the Sachal area. The accused had also killed Sirajuddin in Sachal area.
