CJ Iftikhar met Malik Riaz only while he was deposed: SC registrar

ISLAMABAD: Dr Faqir Hussain, Registrar of the Supreme Court, in reaction to Malik Riaz’s press conference, on Tuesday said that Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry had only met Malik Riaz when he was deposed.

Talking to Geo News, Dr Faqir Hussain said that two to three such meetings had taken place, and he had also been present. “The chief justice held no meetings with Malik Riaz after his restoration,” he clarified. He also said that despite Riaz’s insistence, the CJ had declined to meet President Zardari.

Similarly, Barrister Aitzaz Ahsan, while speaking to Geo News, also confirmed that he had informed the chief justice about the rumours doing the rounds about Dr Arsalan Iftikhar’s dubious business transactions with Malik Riaz Hussain.

Online adds: Responding to one of the queries of property tycoon Malik Riaz about the meetings of Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry with him, the SC Registrar said in one of the meetings, Riaz proposed a meeting between Asif Ali Zardari and Justice Chaudhry. Talking to a private television, he said the chief justice flatly declined to have such a meeting, saying it would be inappropriate.He said Iftikhar Chaudhry met Malik Riaz Hussain “two or three times” while he was suspended.
