WANA: Twelve people, suspected to be militants, were killed in a US drone attack on their alleged hideout in the Mand Kandao village in Janata area of Srarogha Tehsil in South Waziristan Agency on Friday. It is after a long time that a drone strike took place in South Waziristan.
There were, however, conflicting reports about the attack. Some reports said the attack. Some reports said the CIA-operated drone fired four missiles and hit a double cabin pickup truck carrying militants and killed 12 Taliban fighters. Other reports suggested that the unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) targeted a house reportedly being used as a hideout by militants.
However, the tribal sources said the drone attacked a house in the mountainous Shaktoi area where militants affiliated with the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) led by Hakimullah Mahsud were having their sanctuaries. Most of those killed are believed to be the local Mahsud and foreign militants.
A Mahsud tribal elder said the drones had been flying over the area for the past few days. Sources said besides local militants, foreign militants, particularly Uzbeks, were reportedly hiding in the mountains of Shaktoi. This is the same area where militants claimed to have shot down US drone a few months back.
