PESHAWAR: Two ministers of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa cabinet Wednesday refuted the allegations levelled by Federal Minister for Information Senator Parvaiz Rashid against PTI General Secretary Jahangir Tareen that he secured lease of granite mine from the provincial government.
“The lease of granite mine was granted to Jahangir Tareen’s Indus Mining Company in the previous ANP-led government on April, 24 2010,” said Ziaullah Afridi, Minister for Mineral Development, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
He was speaking at a news conference at the Peshawar Press Club along with Mushtaq Ghani, Minister for Information.Ziaullah said the provincial government had banned all kinds of leasing and the allegation levelled against Jahangir Tareen was baseless.
Clarifying his stance, the minister said the lease was initially granted to Nisar Ahmad Sultan in 1993 and later in 1998 it was allotted to Hazara Minerals while in 2010 Jahangir Tareen got the ownership of the lease.
Minister for Information Parvaiz Rashid and Minister for Privatisation, Muhammad Zubair on Tuesday at a news conference alleged that PTI leader Jahangir Tareen acquired mining contracts in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
He said the PTI general secretary has another lease of mining which was also allotted to his firm in previous government in January 2013.Mushtaq Ghani on the occasion said the federal government was formed on the basis of lies as it had stolen the mandate. “We request the apex court to take notice of the lies of both the PML-N ministers and take action against them so that they could not befool the common man,” he demanded.
He said PTI government in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa had zero tolerance for corruption and it never compromised on merit. “We have to save our own skin so how can we flout rules and regulations,” he maintained.
To a question, the minister for mineral development said the provincial government had banned the allotment of lease to bring reforms in mineral sector. “The reforms are in the final stages and will be soon introduced,” he stated.
Regarding the November 30th rally of PTI, both the minister said they have every right to protest for their demands. “Asfandyar Wali Khan and Fazlur Rahman addressed rallies in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, but we never stopped them. Why the federal government is not allowing us?” Mushtaq Ghani asked.
He said a large number of people from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa would reach Islamabad to attend the rally. “We will not create law and order, in fact, the provocative statements of federal ministers are escalating the situation,” he said.To a question, Ziaullah Afridi said, “If they (PML-N) are preparing themselves for a war, we are going to fight it.”
