Imran must quit as SKMHT chairman, says PML-N

Imran must quit as SKMHT chairman, says PML-N
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has asked Chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Imran Khan to resign as chairman of the Shaukat Khanum Memorial Hospital Trust (SKMHT) for causing it a loss of Rs380 million.
Addressing a press conference, the PML-N Chief Coordinator Muhammad Siddiqul Farooq said that Imran Khan must deposit an amount of Rs380 million in trust account and tender his resignation in ten days.
The PML-N leader said Imran Khan’s relatives must also resign from the membership of the board so that the hospital, in future, could never be used for his political objectives. He noted if it had been any other country, Imran would have been behind the bars for committing breach of trust.
He appealed to the chief justice of Pakistan (CJP) to take suo moto notice and appoint an administrator to run Trust’s affairs in a transparent and apolitical manner. The CJP, he requested, might also constitute a three-member investigation committee of auditors representing reputed audit firms to re-conduct audit from the establishment of the Trust and put facts before the nation through the court.
Farooq, however, appealed to all philanthropists from Pakistan and abroad to continue contributing funds to the Trust with more zeal so that treatment of the cancer patients was not affected.
Answering a question, the PML-N leader said that since most of the contributions and donations had been made by public, therefore Imran and his relatives should not run Trust’s affairs as chairman and members of the Board of Governors.
To another query, he said that Edhi Trust was hundred times bigger than SKM Trust but Maulana Edhi had never misused Edhi Trust for any personal, political purposes for which he saluted Edhi. To a question on Sharif Medical City, he said Sharif family had never ever referred to Sharif Medical City or family’s other philanthropic contributions by the society from any political platform.
