April 09, 2014
PESHAWAR: Casting aspersions on the outcome of the May 11 general elections, Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) head Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain on Tuesday said that they would have no regret if his party was defeated through votes in the polls.
Speaking at a meeting of the party’s provincial and district level office-bearers at the residence of PML-Q provincial president Intikhab Chamkani here, he said, “We were cheated. The nation would come to know about the truth if a commission was formed to probe the injustice meted out to us,” he said.
“The injustice was meted out by those whose job was to do justice,” he remarked. He said the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa had suffered the most due to militancy. He added his party also supported the government’s move to hold negotiations with militants for the restoration of peace.
Criticising the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), PML-Q chief said the two parties were not playing the role of a true opposition in the Parliament.
He said the nation had attached high expectations to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan, but he couldn’t deliver and had disappointed the people.Earlier, the meeting was disrupted for a while when some of its participants interrupted the speech of former lawmaker from Mansehra, Tariq Khan Swati.
They shouted at him and said he had no right to deliver a speech. Tariq Swati also questioned their political status. However, Tariq Swati later apologized for his remarks.PML-Q Senior Vice President Ajmal Khan Wazir asked the infuriated participants of the meeting to respect the Pakhtun traditions instead of airing their grievances in the presence of guests. He said they had always taken up their problems with senior party leaders instead of doing so publicly.
He said other political parties, including the PTI, had offered them tickets in the last general election, but they couldn’t think of quitting the PML-Q.
PML-Q provincial President Intikhab Chamkani, General Secretary Malik Aurangzeb, Amjad Khan, Dr Shaukat Ali, Malik Zareen and others in their speeches talked about the problems being faced by the workers. They urged the top leadership to reinvigorate the party throughout the country. They hoped their party would emerge victorious in the upcoming local government election in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa as they believed the PTI-led government had disappointed the people.
