The Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) condemned the murder of a family physician in Federal B Area and criticised the authorities for not providing security to citizens.
Dr Shaukat N Nayani was shot dead on March 17 as he got out of his car in front of his clinic near Madni Masjid, Ayesha Manzil.
In a meeting on Tuesday, the PMA said the killings and kidnappings of doctors had become a routine. Medical professionals were being killed either on sectarian grounds or on the pretext of target killings.
The PMA leaders lamented the government did not realise its responsibility of providing safety and security and the law enforcement agencies too had failed to curb these crimes. Even the judiciary is not taking any serious notice of the situation.
They said the persistent situation had created a sense of fear and unrest in the society, especially among the medical fraternity but the government seemed disinterested in providing security to doctors and improving the law and order situation in the province.
