ISLAMABAD
Chaudhry Zulfiqar assassination:
He also admitted his role in the killing of FIA prosecutor Chaudhry Zulfiqar, stating: “On May 3, 2013, at 2pm, Tanveer made telephone call asking to reach in front of paint shop near juice shop at Peshawar More to discuss an important issue. I arrived at Peshawar Mor on my Daewoo car (IDG-9747) within 40 to 45 minutes where Tanveer was waiting for him. He rode on my car and asked to move to an adjacent street where he told me that he, along with Umar Abdullah alias Ghulam Ullah and Haris, killed Prosecutor Chaudhry Zulfiqar but his two aides were wounded critically as a result of cross firing by security guard of the victim and Haris, later, succumbed to his injuries while he shifted Umar Abdullah to hospital.
“I offered him to bury the dead body in my house as there was enough land in and around my house. Tanveer accepted my offer and he took my car to Karachi Company. After 15 to 20 minutes, he returned back and told me that dead body of Haris was in the trunk of the car asking that he would come to meet me after completing a task.
“I took the dead body to my home. After 2/3 hours, Tanveer reached my house and buried it with the help of my brother Adnan Adil after offering Namaz-e-Janaza, in the absence of my other family members and Tanveer went back to provide help to Umar Abdullah.
“The Daewoo car on which the dead body of Haris was transported, was still standing for sale on Adil Show Room at Simly Dam Road.
“In May, 2013, Tanveer called me at about 11am for a meeting at Peshawar Mor near the paint shop. As I reached there after 45 minutes, he was waiting for me. He handed me over two 9mm pistols in a shopping bag to keep it in my house and left for his house. After a few days when we met in Pims mosque, I asked him reasons for killing Chaudhry Zulfiqar when he was against Gen Musharraf, he said there was a reason behind the killing that he could not disclose; however, he said that he and Umar Abdullah executed the task.”
Attack on Hamid Saeed Kazmi: Admitting his role in the attack on Hamid Saeed Kazmi, Adil said, “Tanveer gave (me) two 9mm pistols and 70/80 bullets to keep in my house in 2010 while (he) gave (me) one Kalashnikov to keep in my house in 2009 that he took back after three months while the pistols remained with me till 2010 which he took back too during the same year.
“After six weeks of getting the pistols back, attack on federal minister for religious affairs, Hamid Saeed Kazmi, occurred. After one and a half months of the Hamid Saeed incident, when I met with Tanveer, I asked reason for the attack on Kazmi; he said that he delivered Fatwas against us and looted Hajjis. But I disagreed with his point of view.”
Attack on ISI chief Gen Zaheer:
He accepted his role in the attack on ISI Chief Gen Zaheer, stating, “In May 2011, Tanveer met me in F-8 and inquired who lives in House No 7, in front of my former house in street-53, F-8/4. I told him that an army officer lived in that house. He asked about rank of the army officer but I was not aware; I just knew that he was an army officer. However, I asked him reason of knowing details about the officer; he said that the leadership wanted to know details about the army officer asking me to confirm that he was the ISI chief. If it is confirmed that he was ISI chief, the leadership wanted to kill him.
“So, I contacted Mazher, a friend of my father, who bought my former house and was living there. I attended marriage ceremony of his son to confirm the details of the army officer. Finally, I got information and confirmation that he was ISI Chief Gen Zaheer. I informed Tanveer that it had been confirmed that ISI Chief Gen Zaheer was living in House No 7, Street- 53, F-8/4, but Tanveer had already conducted reconnaissance and collected details about Gen. Zaheer. Consequently, after one and a half month, ISI Chief Gen Zaheer was attacked by a suicide bomber but he failed to get the target as suicide jacket of the Fidai could not be exploded.
“After 9 days, Tanveer met me at Aabpara and told that when he, along with Ghulam Ullah and a suicide bomber who was sent from Wana, attacked Gen Zaheer, the suicide jacket of the Fidai could not be exploded due to some technical fault. “He said that they fled away from the scene on motorcycles to avoid arrest. He said that the Fidai was sent back to Wana after the failed attempt.”
Attack on Musharraf:
Adil also accepted his role in the plan to attack Pervez Musharraf. He said, “I met with Tanveer during the last week of May. After talking about the killing of Prosecutor Chaudhry Zulfiqar, Tanveer informed me that our next target was Gen Pervez Musharraf as he was very ‘cruel’.
“I agreed with his opinion. Tanveer asked me to keep eye on the routine activities of Pervez Musharraf and conduct reconnoitering of his routes as well as strength of his security.
Tanveer asked me to keep some stuff/commodities in my house and I accepted it.
“I got information about the force deployed for the security of Pervez Musharraf through internet which was strengthened with Rangers and Army Commandos too. We again met at a mosque of Pims after Zoher prayer where Tanveer informed me that he required 30 kilogramme of nut bolts, one bag of wooden crush and asked me to arrange for the required stuff. After two days, he contacted me through email and again called me at Pims mosque where we met for half an hour and discussed the arrangements.
“Tanveer directed me to reach Mezban Restaurant at Chakri Road with the required stuff. Next day, I got 30 kg nut bolts and a bag of wooden crush and reached Mezban Restaurant at Chakri Road on my car bearing registration number IDL-9747 where Tanveer was already waiting for me and rode my car. We drove ahead, turned left and entered into a street and dropped Tanveer with the stuff in front of a double-storey house located on the right side of the street and returned home. We against met in Pims mosque after a few days where Tanveer informed me that he had prepared explosive-laden car, ready for explosion and asked me to park the car at my house.
“Shaukat welder went to Wana with me in 2007 where he remain for a month. He was a good friend of mine and he met with Tanveer through me. Earlier, he prepared my pick-up to transport arms and ammunition from one place to other.
“Shaukat prepared explosive-laden car to target Gen Pervez Musharraf at Tanveen’s Chakri Road house; he cut the gas cylinder of the car and filled it with explosive material. Tanveer was expert in preparing explosive material. Tanveer, himself, contacted Shaukat to prepare the car and informed me that the explosive-laden car was ready to explode which would be parked in my house.
“After a couple of days, Tanveer called me at his Chakri Road house and handed the explosive-laden car to me, asking me to take the car without feeling any danger. It was month of June when I took the car with me and parked it in my house. It was a stolen VXR Alto car and I displayed fake registration number (522) on it.
“Tanveer told me that he was waiting for mail or memory card from Wana which (he) had not yet received. Tanveer had informed his leadership at Wana that targeting Gen Pervez Musharraf was a very difficult task and if we failed to hit Gen Musharraf, the other target would be Joint Session of the Parliament or bus of diplomats or MQM’s probable sit-in camp at Islamabad.
“After the finalization of terrorist attack on Gen. Pervez Musharraf, I conducted reconnaissance of surroundings of Musharraf’s farmhouse 3 to 4 time and route from the farmhouse to District Courts, Rawalpindi, and selected the points where the convoy of Musharraf could easily be targeted. “Later, I took Tanveer with me and drove to Musharraf’s farmhouse on my car bearing registration number LXY-3399 as final reconnaissance to finalise that plan of attack. We selected two spots from where Musharraf could easily be targeted - preferably, at service road of petrol pump near mosque at Rawal Dam Chowk and second, at a side road in front of MacDonald near District Courts, Rawalpindi.
“It was finalised to stop the explosive laden car at a footpath, right at the corner of the intersection where speed of traffic slowed down and Musharraf’s convoy could be targeted by ramming the explosive laden car into the Musharraf’s vehicle while turning to right at that point. It was decided that five people would participate in the operation - a person would be deployed at anti-terrorist court, who would inform Fidai (suicide attacker) about the departure of Musharraf’s convoy from the court and the Fidai would keep ready in the car while a person would keep sitting in the explosive laden car with Fidai but would leave the car when Musharraf’s convoy would reach near the explosive-laden car and Tanveer would supervise the operation along with me. After finalising the plan, we left the place for our homes.
“After two weeks of finalising plan, Tanveer came to my home and informed that tomorrow was date of hearing Gen Musharraf and he would be taken to the court. He told me that the information of date of Musharraf’s hearing was confirmed by Tanveer’s real brother who is an advocate and practicing in district court, Rawalpindi.
“Tanveer connected detonators with explosive material and linked all wires with devices and finalised the car ready for explosion. He asked me to reach Rawal Road Chawk ahead of Airport at 9.30 am with the explosive laden car and left for his home.
Next day, I left for the spot on explosive laden Alto VXR at about 8.30am and reached Rawal Road Chawk at 9.15am where Tanveer was already waiting for me. He sat in the car with me and we drove to MacDonald where suicide attacker was waiting for us. We picked Fidai from MacDonald, drove to Kachehri Chawk, the place from where attack at Musharraf’s convoy would be conducted. We later drove toward Sawan where Tanveer dropped me while the Fidai sat on the driving seat and drove back to the selected place.
“I walked to the wagon stop and later reached my office at Behria Town and opened internet to get information about the vehicular attack on Musharraf but no news appeared on TV till late evening. In the night while going to my home, I went through the place where the attack was planned but there were no signs of any incident.
“However, Tanveer reached my home with the explosive laden car and told me on query that the Fidai was illiterate and was unaware about the roads and failed reach the spot in time. He said that he had send the Fidai back to Wana and asked for another one who would reach within a couple of days.
“After that, we remained in touch with each other through email. On 21-8-13, he asked me to reach AR CNG Station near Khanna Pull, so, I reached there on 22-8-13 but I received his call from a PTCL number informing (me) that he could not reach that day. He asked (me) to come tomorrow, consequently, when I reach there next day, he was there and waiting for me. He told me when asked that the leadership believed that attack on Musharraf was very difficult task and he was waiting for next decision from the leadership.
“Tanveer told me that if we failed to hit Musharraf, we would target Joint Session of Parliament or diplomat’s bus or sit in camp of MQM at Islamabad.”I
