Water level in Ravi rising at Shahdara

WATER level in River Ravi continues to rise at Shahdara in the suburbs of provincial metropolis following widespread rain in its catchment.
According to Flood Forecasting Division, inflow River Ravi at Shahdara touched 37,500 cusecs on Thursday from Wednesday’s level of 25,000 cusecs. It has been predicted that river flow could further increase in next few days.
Though, capacity of flood passage of Shahdara stands at 250,000 cusecs, flow of even 50,000 cusecs can wreak havoc along banks of river, mainly due to encroachment. On the other side of Lahore District, discharge in River Sutlej at Ganda Singh Wala in Kasur district may attain 25,000 to 35,000 cusecs from August 10, 2013. Meanwhile, River Indus at Chashma and Taunsa is in medium flood level. River Indus at Tarbela, Kalabagh and Guddu, River Kabul at Nowshera and River Chenab at Khanki are in low flood level.
