Cops torture man to death

A 35-year-old man was tortured to death by SHO Shahdara police station and four officials on Friday. Shahdara police have registered an FIR against SHO Afzal Virk and four constables under section 302 PPC on the complaint of SI Mohammad Varyam.
Police said that Siraj Din, a resident of Faisalabad was arrested a few days back and kept at a private torture cell where SHO Afzal Virk and four officials tortured him up to their satisfaction. As a result, Siraj’s condition went critical and died at the hands of custodians of law. The victim was rushed to a local hospital where he was pronounced brought dead.
A senior police officer, requesting anonymity, said that many SPs posted in the city did not bother to keep vigil on their subordinates and preferred to stay at their luxurious offices. “Unfortunately, they are blind and deaf as they believe that their political bosses will manage to bring them back in case of their transfers and save them from the wrath of their seniors,” he added. Another police officer said that the SPs and DSPs concerned should also be held responsible over such killings as their lack of interest encouraged the subordinates to set their own courts of law in the police stations and at private torture cells.
Labourer dies: A labourer died and another received injuries when an upper storey of under-construction building collapsed in Defence A police station area on Friday. Police said that Muhammad Siddique and another labourer were working in an under-construction building which suddenly collapsed and both the persons were trapped under debris. Rescuers rushed to the scene, pulled the two out of debris and shifted them to the hospital where Siddique succumbed to his injuries. The condition of another labourer was also said to be critical. No case was registered till the filing of this report.
Body found: A 40-year-old man was found dead in Nawankot police area on Friday. According to the duty officer, police had taken the body into custody and made announcements in the mosques to ascertain his identity but to no avail. Body was shifted to morgue for autopsy.
Shot dead: A man was shot dead by two bike riders near Kalma Chowk Gulberg on Friday. According to an official of Edhi Foundation, the man, identified as Pervaiz, was standing on the roadside when two bike riders approached him, shot and wounded him. The injured Pervaiz was rushed to Services Hospital where he died. Duty officer at the police station said that they would register FIR after receiving application.

According to the injured Muhammad Nawaz, the warden Shrafat Ali and another warden tortured him when he tried to cross the road divider on his bike. The two wardens beat him up in front of his wife and a minor daughter.
