KARACHI: Fourth seeds Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi and Jean-Julien Rojer lost in the second round of the Madrid Open on Wednesday. Having got bye in the first round, Aisam and Rojer, ranked 9th and 7th, respectively, were beaten by unseeded pair of J Chardy of France and L Kubot of Poland, ranked 89th and 25th, 2-6, 6-7(4) in this ATP Masters tournament in Spain. This is the second upset loss to Aisam-Rojer within a week as they had failed to defend their title of the Portugal Open (ATP 250) on Sunday despite being top seeds. Last year Aisam-Rojer reached the quarter-finals of this ATP masters event. Now they are likely to appear in La Dolce Vita at the Internazionali BNL d’Italia, another ATP Masters tournament, starting from May 14. Last year, Aisam and his partner Alexander Peya of Austria lost in the pre-quarters of this clay court championship.
