Majid upset Kashif in Sindh Cup Snooker

KARACHI: Majid Anwar caused an upset by knocking out Kashif Khan in a third round match of the preliminary phase of the 21st Sindh Cup Snooker Tournament 2012, which got underway here at the Indus Snooker Parlour in Gulistan-e-Jauhar on Thursday.
Khizar Aziz, a promising youngster, delivered the knockout punch to the experienced Maisam Zaidi, who was seeking re-entry in the national circuit, while S M Ali Zaidi reached the fourth round by routing Danish Karim.
Ahmed Bawany, Kamran Razzaq, Nasim Paracha, Faisal Kashmiri, Mohammad Akhlas and Mirza Shadab Baig remained on course to revive their national careers by advancing to the fourth round.
The third round matches will conclude on Friday (today).
The fourth round matches will be held on Saturday (tomorrow) and the fifth and final round of the preliminary stage will be completed on Sunday.
The eight winners of the fifth round will join the eight seeded cueists for the league phase of the Sindh Cup 2012 due to start on Monday.
The top six cueists of the Sindh Cup 2012 advance for the National Snooker Championship 2013 due to be staged early next year.
