Naveen to play Sindh Cup Snooker for comeback

KARACHI: Veteran Naveen Kumar Perwani, seeking re-entry in the national circuit, will be taking part in the 21st Sindh Cup Snooker Tournament 2012 whose preliminary round matches get underway here at the Indus Snooker Parlor in Gulistan-e-Jauhar on Monday (tomorrow).
According to the details announced by the Sindh Billiards & Snooker Association (SBSA) here on Saturday, Naveen Perwani, a former national champion, has been granted direct entry in the league phase of the Sindh Cup alongwith seven other seeded cueists.
Top seeded Naveen Perwani has been placed in the Group A, in the company of Farrukh Usman, Javed Ansari and Zulfiqar Ali, who will be joined by four qualifiers from the preliminary round matches to be held on knockout basis.
The other four seeded cueists, Mohammad Ishtiaq, Agha Bilawal, Mohammad Akmal and Mohammad, have been drawn in the Group B which will also feature four qualifiers from the knockout phase.
The league phase of the Sindh Cup 2012, featuring 16 cueists who have been divided equally in two groups, will commence on December 27.
The best-of-seven-frame round matches will continue until December 30.
The tournament will be played on round robin basis with the top cueists from both groups to contests the best-of-nine-frame semi-finals on December 31.
The provincial event will conclude with the best-of-eleven-frame final on January 1.
The top six cueists of the Sindh Cup 2012 will qualify for the National Snooker Championship 2013 due to be staged in the first quarter of the year.
The winner of the Sindh Cup will be getting a handsome purse of Rs35,000, while the runner-up will collect Rs20,000.
The losing semi-finalists will be receiving Rs10,000 each, while those finishing fifth and sixth in the event will be compensated with Rs5,000 each.
The highest break award carries a purse of Rs 5,000.
