At least six people, including an advocate and a policeman, were gunned down in the city on Thursday.
Abdul Rauf advocate, 40, and his client Omer, 24, were fired upon and seriously injured by four men, riding motorcycles, just opposite Ship Owners College in Block-H of North Nazimabad in Shahra-e-Noorjhan police remit, while they were standing outside the lawyer’s house.
Both were taken to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where they were pronounced dead. SHO Shahra-e-Noor Jahan said the double murder was part of the ongoing wave of target killings.
Assistant Sub Inspector Shahjehan Yousuf was sprayed with bullets by two men just outside his residence in Kunwari Colony in Mauripur police limits when he was just going to his duty. The armed men, who did not use any vehicle, fled away after committing the murder.
Upon hearing gunshots his family members rushed out of the house and saw Shahjehan lying in a pool of blood. His body was taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for legal formalities.
According to an MLO, Shahjehan suffered 17 bullet wounds.
Shahjehan was posted at the Orangi Town police station and police said that it was a target killing incident. He hailed from Mansehra and has left behind seven children.
Unidentified men, riding a motorcycle, intercepted the vehicle of Faizan, 25, and opened fire on him near the Native Jetty Bridge in Baghdadi police area while he was going to his shop.
A rickshaw driver saw the incident and took the injured to a private hospital in critical condition. Faizan expired during treatment. Later, his body was moved to Civil Hospital for a postmortem. Faizan was working in a rice shop and lived in Mohajir Camp in Bladia Town.
Faisal, 35, was fired upon and seriously injured by motorcyclists in Lee Market, Baghdadi police limits, while he was standing outside his residence.
He was rushed to the Civil Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. Police said that it was a target killing incident.
In a sectarian attack, 35-year-old Syed Ijaz Haider Razvi was shot dead by motorcyclists near the Power House Chowrangi in the New Karachi police limits.
The victim was on his way home on a motorbike.
An MLO at the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital said the victim suffered a single bullet to the skull. SHO New Karachi Nasir Bukhari told The News that deceased was a teacher in the Al-Murtuza School and lived in the Federal B Area. He added that the victim was a Shia and was killed in a sectarian attack.
