IGP for judicial inquiry into Khanewal incident

Suspends DSP, SHO, others for negligence
LAHORE: The Punjab inspector general of police, Mohammad Habib-ur-Rehman, has recommended removal of Multan RPO and a judicial inquiry into the Khanewal incident, in which a woman was stone to death.
The IGP also transferred Khanewal DPO Muhammad Waqar Abbasi to the Central Police Office, Lahore. Besides, the provincial police chief suspended Khanewal Sadar Circle DSP Javaid Khan, Kacha Khoo SHO inspector Shamshad Khalid, Chawki in-charge Aaqil, PS Kacha Khoo and sub-inspector Muhammad Ashraf.
The IGP also constituted a new inquiry team which would be headed by RPO Sheikhupura, Zulfiqar Cheema. Other members of the team would be: DIG Investigation Lahore Ch. Shafique Ahmed and SSP Investigation Punjab Tariq Nawaz Malik. It is worth mentioning here that the Supreme Court of Pakistan had taken suo motu notice of the incident and recommended strict action against the IG and other officers concerned for their negligence in the incident.
Meanwhile the IG Punjab, Mohammad Habib-ur-Rehman, said that officers like Anwar Virk were the real asset of the Punjab police who were proud of his services and appointment as FIA director general.
The IG’s remarks were delivered by Addl. IGP Punjab, Malik Khuda Bakhsh Awan, in a farewell meeting held at the Central Police Office Punjab, Lahore. DIG HQs M Tahir, DIG R&D Muhammad Amlish, DIG Investigation Punjab Ali Aamir Malik, AIG Admin Suhail Sukhera, AIG Training Maqsood-ul-Hassan, AIG Operations Sahibzada Shehzad Sultan and SSP Sajjad Manj were also present.
