MUZAFFARGARH: World blood donor day marked
June 15, 2012
MUZAFFARGARH: World Blood Donor Day was observed here on Thursday.
DCO Tahir Khurshid donated his blood for opening the day at DHQ Hospital. EDO Health Dr Ashiq Malik, DO Health Dr Siddique Saqib, City Press Club president Khalid Ch and DO Social Welfare Saleem Akhtar were present. Officers, students and nurses of the DHQ Hospital gave their blood. The theme of the 2012 World Blood Donor Day campaign “Every blood donor is a hero” focuses on the idea that every one of us can become a hero by giving blood. While recognising silent and unsung heroes who save lives everyday through their blood donations, the theme also strongly encouraged more people all over the world to donate blood voluntarily and regularly. The DCO said on the occasion that the day highlights the need to regularly give blood to prevent shortages in hospitals and clinics, particularly in developing countries where quantities are very limited. The annual event focuses on motivating more people to become blood donors. It demonstrates how health systems and policy-makers work to make blood transfusions safe and accessible to people worldwide.
