Anjum Aqeel’s bail rejected By Khalid Iqbal RAWALPINDI: Special Judge Central (SJC) Khalid Shabbir on Tuesday rejected the bail application of PML-N MNA Anjum Aqeel Khan, involved in an alleged National Police Foundation (NPF) land fraud case. The family doctor of the MNA told the judge that Anjum Aqeel Khan was a heart patient and in addition to that he is suffering from many other ailments. The judge asked the doctor to give in writing the detail of all the diseases Anjum Aqeel Khan is suffering from. The doctor gave the judge details of diseases in writing in the courtroom. But, the judge rejected the bail application of Anjum Aqeel Khan. Anjum Aqeel Khan and some officials of the NPF have been accused of fraud, forgery, cheating, corruption and corrupt practices in the purchase of land for the Foundation. FIR No 432, has been registered with Islamabad’s Shalimar Police Station.
Pir Pagara vows to support govt By our correspondent SUKKUR: Pir Sibghatullah Shah Pir Pagara has said that the political situation in the country is critical and he would not isolate the regime because his late father Syed Shah Mardan Shah II had encouraged a coalition with the government. Speaking at the Kingri House in Pir Jo Goth, he said he had proposed his younger brother Pir Sadderuddin Shah Rashdi as the chief of the party, but the general council of the party had put the responsibility on his shoulders. Pir Pagara said that honest leadership as well as determination and a man of integrity will address the problems of Sindh.
IPO to establish ‘Hall of Fame’ ISLAMABAD: The Intellectual Property Organisation (IPO) has planned to establish a “Hall of Fame” to pay tribute to the researchers and innovators of the country. Addressing a ceremony of Harvard Alumni at University of Management and Technology here, Director General IPO-Pakistan, Sajjad Ahmad Bhutta said that this initiative has been planned to honour those researchers who had made remarkable achievements in their respective fields. He said this initiative would enable the young students to prove their capabilities at the national level.
Shahbaz attends PAF pilot’s funeral By our correspondent LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif attended the Nimaz-e-Janaza of Squadron Leader Chaudhry Masood Hussain who was martyred in an air crash in Turkey. The funeral prayer was offered at the Old Terminal and attended by Ambassador of Turkey in Pakistan Mustafa Hizlan as well as a large number of officers and Jawans of Turk and Pak Army.
Germany to help in setting up 13 blood banks in Pakistan By our correspondent NAWABSHAH: The German government, in coordination with the government here, will set up 13 blood banks throughout the country, for which a ceremony was held in Nawabshah on Tuesday. After Karachi and Hyderabad, the third of the many to come ceremonies was held in Nawabshah (district Shaheed Benazirabad), wherein the Coordinator German Development Bank, Dr Masooma Zaidi, said that a regional blood bank is to be set up in Nawabshah so that the patients from district Benazirabad, Sanghar and Naushehro Feroze could be provided with safe blood. She told this scribe that the German government would put in Rs325 million while the provincial government of Sindh will be contributing Rs375 million for the blood banks to be set up in Sindh.
PAEC staff escapes unhurt in Lakki blast By our correspondent LAKKI MARWAT: The employees of the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC) escaped unhurt in a roadside blast near Chowkijand on the Bannu-Mianwali Road on Tuesday, sources said. The sources said that the employees of the Qabulkhel Project were on their way to Lakki city from the workplace in the official van when an improvised explosive device planted on the roadside near Chowkijand village went off at 5pm. It caused partial damage to the van but the employees remained unhurt in the explosion.
Sepa’s drive against pollution By our correspondent SUKKUR: Director General, Sindh Environmental Protection Agency, here on Tuesday said that air pollution was dangerous and was a reason of many a deadly disease. The DG Sepa, Muhammad Nawaz, addressing a press conference in Sukkur said that said that air pollution claimed three million lives yearly worldwide. He said that carbon emission from vehicles is also polluting the environment, adding that the Environment Protection Agency in Sindh is on a drive against such vehicles. The DG said at least 2530 such vehicles have been fined.
Nurses stage demo against low wages By our correspondent HYDERABAD: A number of male and female nurses staged a protest demonstration against low wages and other facilities on Tuesday outside the local press club. They shouted slogans against the government and health department, while carrying banners and placards. The protest was supported by the Provincial Nurses Association of Sindh.

JUP warns of sit-in if Nato supplies restored By our correspondent CHAKWAL: JUP chief Sahibzada Abdul Khair Muhammad Zubair on Tuesday warned of staging a sit-in outside the Parliament House till the ouster of the government if the Nato supplies were restored. He was addressing a condolence reference for Prof Shah Faridul Haq at a local hotel. He said that drone attacks were not stopped despite resolutions passed by parliament and the APC. He said no one would be allowed to harm the integrity of the country. Haji Zubair Kiyani, Noorul Mustafa, Badrul Islam Hashmi, Abdul Wahid and Mohsin Malik paid tributes to Prof Faridul Haq for his services in the fields of religion and politics.
Couple killed over property dispute By our correspondent SUKKUR: A couple was shot dead in Daharki on Tuesday. Police said that a dispute erupted over the possession of a piece of land. Accused Shabir Shar along with his accomplices attacked the house Mithal Shar in the limits of Kaijho Police Station of Daharki in District Ghotki, killing Mithal and his wife Wazira Shar on the spot.
Two killed over old enmity By our correspondent SUKKUR: Two people were killed over old enmity in Hala in Tuesday. Police said that a clash between two groups of Nizamani tribe in Jamal Nizamani village developed, which resulted in exchange of fire between the rival groups. Lal Bakhsh and his nephew Abdul Khalique Nizamani were killed in the incident. Police shifted the bodies to a local hospital. The killings created panic and fear in the area. Police said that incident was a result of an old enmity.
