Labourer dies in factory fire

A labourer lost his life when a fire broke out in a garment factory within the Bilal Colony police limits early on Saturday morning. Mulazim Hussain alias Farrukh, a cutting master who lived in the factory, burnt alive when the fire erupted in Saleem Garment factory in Sector-5E, New Karachi, the police said. Rescue teams and four fire engines reached the factory and started efforts to control the blaze. The body of Hussain was shifted to a nearby hospital. The reason for the fire is yet to be ascertained.

Dawood college admissions

The Dawood College of Engineering and Technology (DCET) announced on Saturday that admissions in various disciplines of engineering would start on January 24. Principal DCET Dr Muhammad Ali Shaikh said there were 504 seats at the institution out of which 100 seats would be filled on self-finance basis.

Shaheed-e-Millat Road opens to traffic

The Shaheed-e-Millat Road has been opened to traffic after the completion of repair and carpeting work, said the city administrator on Saturday. A storm water circular drain was also installed at the Do Talwaar Roundabout in Clifton, Muhammad Hussain Syed added. He was touring areas where development work was being carried out in the city and was accompanied by DG Technical Altaf G Memon, Senior Director Health Services Dr Shoukat Zaman and Chief Engineer East Mehmood Hussain Baloch.

Chances of light rain

The Meteorological Department has forecast chances of light rain in the city on Sunday (today). On Saturday, the weather turned pleasant due to the change in wind pattern and direction from north easterly to south easterly.
