‘Pakistan being introduced as Halal meat producer’

PUNJAB Agriculture and Livestock Minister Malik Ahmad Ali Aulakh said demand for livestock and its products was rising due to population growth, urbanization and increase in per capita income.
Addressing second International Conference on Halal Food Industry organized by Punjab Agriculture and Meat Company (PAMCO), Livestock & Dairy Development Department and Halal Research Council here on Monday, he said the livestock sector was contributing 55 per cent of agriculture value added products and 11.50 per cent of national GDP. He said participants from 19 countries in this moot would share their knowledge and experience ion this regard. The minister said this conference meant to introduce Pakistan as an emerging leader in this sector and attracting investors.
He said the moot highlighted international standards and procedures of Halal certification.
Secretary Livestock & dairy Development Department Punjab Hamid Yaqoob Sheikh said Halal meat industry has grown all over world.
He added that this conference is aimed at exploring potential, scope, opportunities and requirements to tap this $3 trillion industry.
CEO Punjab Agriculture & Meat Company Dr Hamid Jalil said Pakistan has the 4th largest livestock population in the world having 180 million animals growing at 4.2 per cent annually.
