Blast condemned

THE Imamia Students Organization (ISO) Pakistan has strongly condemned a bomb blast near a Chehlum procession in Khanpur, Rahim Yar Khan district on Sunday, which claimed lives of around 18 people.

CHIEF Minister Mian Shahbaz Sharif has condemned the bomb blast in the Chehlum procession of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) at Khanpur, Rahimyar Khan district. He has expressed his grief with the families of those who died in the bomb blast and sympathies with the injured. The chief minister has also announced Rs 0.5 million for the heirs of each ‘Azadaar’ who died in the blast. He assured that impartial investigation into the bomb explosion would be conducted and the culprits would be taken to task. He has directed all the Punjab departments concerned to provide best medical facilities to the injured.

‘PEF trains 136,000 teachers’

THE Punjab Education Foundation has completed the capacity-building of 136,000 teachers and school heads of private schools in the province to improve the standard of low-cost private schools by enhancing skills of teachers. According to a handout on Sunday, PEF Chairman Raja Anwar stated this while talking to a 25-member delegation of schoolteachers and heads of different private schools of Lahore at his office. During the training, the teachers were also trained in classroom management, communication skills enhancement and child psychology, he said, adding that the Punjab government was giving priority to improving the standard of private schools as they played equal role in promotion of education.

A TWO-day training workshop on “Disaster Risk Management” will be held at the Lahore College for Women University (LCWU) from Monday (today). The training, being organised in collaboration and support of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), National Institute of Disaster Management (NIDM) Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) and United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), is specially held for the faculty, administrative staff and students of Environmental Science Department of the LCWU.

Symposium

THE 2nd Scientific Annual Symposium of Postgraduate Medical Institute Lahore is going to be held on 8th and 9th February, 2012. According to a press release here on Sunday, PGMI Principal Prof Dr Tariq Salahuddin said the academic activities pertaining to Scientific Symposium would be celebrated throughout the week from February 6 to February 11 while scientific paper presentations would be held on 8th and 9th of February. Prof Dr Agha Shabir Ali will be the organizing secretary of the symposium. Activities of the symposium includes 12 workshops in various departments in which hands on training will be offered to the young doctors on very practical medical and surgical problems. Original research work of various departments will be presented in the form of scientific papers and posters.
