POLITICAL activist held for blowing up railway tracks

January 11, 2012
The Crime Investigation Department (CID) claimed to have arrested an activist of a nationalist party on Thursday for his alleged involvement in recent explosions on railway tracks in Karachi and interior Sindh.
SSP Mohammed Fayyaz Khan of the CID said the arrest was made after a tip-off about the involvement of a nationalist party in these attacks. The informant told the police precisely that the suspects were hiding in a house in Gulshan-i-Hadeed, Steel Town. Thus a raid was conducted.
The official said that the suspects gave them a fight before the police arrested one of them, Saiful Khan Bugti, and recovered a TT pistol. His companion, however, shot his way out, he added.
The suspect was moved to an investigation unit, where he told the officials that he belonged to the party of nationalist leader Shafi Burfat, according to SSP Fayyaz. He reportedly told the police that he and his accomplices — Asghar Ali Shah, Nisaar, Nawaz Chandio, Maqbool and Ghulam Rasool – met Burfat in Dhabe Jee a few weeks ago. He said Burfat asked them to work harder for the separation of Sindh. However, the police claims could not be confirmed by independent sources.
